Gear Shift Assist Pro was originally designed for racing applications but it's been specifically adapted for touring use. It allows for up shifting or downshifting at virtually all engine speeds without using your clutch. Your Rider’s Manual gives you detailed instructions on how to use this feature as well as a list of rpm shift thresholds for your particular model. It's a good idea to look over this information and become familiar with it but here are the basics on how it works.
When accelerating and ready to up shift Gear Shift Assist Pro allows you to use the foot gearshift without rolling off the throttle or actuating the clutch.
Simply place your toe under the lever when you're ready and firmly apress up. Once the gear has been achieved you must fully release the gear shifter. In the same vein as you're decelerating you can downshift without actuating the clutch. Press down firmly on the foot gearshift to downshift and release fully once the gear has been achieved.
One important piece of information to note when using this technology is that rolling on or off the throttle while using it may prevent the gear change. It may take a few times using this technology to get the hang of it but read through the information in your owner's manual and give it a shot. Here's something interesting about this tech, it is available on a number of BMW models with different numbers of cylinders and it feels a little different depending on how many cylinders your bike has.
